A Mature Child
Devotional, June 11 - Proverbs 2:1-5“My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you, Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding; For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the Lord And discover the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs 2:1–5, NASB95)Anyone who is a parent has said, in his heart if not with his mouth, “My child, receive my words and treasure my commandments within you!” It is our desire that our children hear and heed our words because we know these words will protect them—and us—from pain and suffering. When our children fail to understand a situation in life, we long for them to seek understanding from us. Our desire is to make their path smooth. As a child of God, do you “Lift your voice for understanding” from the Heavenly Father? He stands ready to provide His wisdom, and He does so as we “discover the knowledge of God” as He has revealed it in the Bible. An immature child rejects the words and commandments of his parents. An immature child of God does the same. And both bring sorrow to their Father. In His Grace,Dr. Randy White
