How God Speaks Today

Devotional, June 8 - Proverbs 1:5-6A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles.” (Proverbs 1:5–6, NASB95)As a firm believer that God’s revelation to mankind is complete and that prophecies have been laid aside until the time of the Tribulation, I have to make the assumption that when someone says “God told me” that God did not tell them in the manner in which those words would normally convey.  My theology forces me to believe that a direct, unique message from God is not possible in this dispensation.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=“yes” overflow=“visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=“1_1” background_position=“left top” background_color=“” border_size=“” border_color=“” border_style=“solid” spacing=“yes” background_image=“” background_repeat=“no-repeat” padding=“” margin_top=“0px” margin_bottom=“0px” class=“” id=“” animation_type=“” animation_speed=“0.3” animation_direction=“left” hide_on_mobile=“no” center_content=“no” min_height=“none”][caption id=“attachment_953” align=“alignleft” width=“156” caption=“Click here for Dr. White's newest book!”][/caption]But God does still “speak” to me, you, and others.  His speech comes from Scripture, which, if studied, will bring you to the point of being “approved” with “no need to be ashamed.”  In fact, the Word of God (the Bible) is sufficient so that its study will make you “complete” and “equipped for every good work.”  If I believe what the Bible says about the Bible, then I do not need another word from God.So what is needed in this age is not another word, but an understanding of the word I have.  I do not need to empty my mind to receive, I need to fill my mind with “that which has been delivered” in the Word.  As we journey through the Proverbs, our aim will be to “hear and increase in learning” as we “acquire wise counsel” from Solomon’s pen, and, prayerfully, come to “understand a proverb and a figure” so that we can hear the message God has given. In His Grace,Dr. Randy White___To receive these messages in your inbox, subscribe to our email newsletter, using the submission form on the upper right.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
