The ESV Bible (English Standard Version) has become one of the most popular Bibles on the market today. It is considered to be a conservative and faithful translation of the Hebrew and Greek text.In my analysis of the ESV, I would not use it for daily study based on the following:
- The theological bias of the publisher and translation oversight committee give due reason for suspecting subtle theological slant within the translation.
- The failure to use italics or some means of enabling the reader to recognize editorial additions to the text. I would reject the ESV on this issue alone because I insist that my English Bible show me man’s insertions.
- A number of prophetic passages handled poorly, especially knowing that the publisher is allergic to prophecy.
- …and more!
While a person could certainly do much worse, they can also do much better. Watch the Bible study session below for my full analysis.(
