God’s Designation

So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name,” (Numbers 1:17, NASB95) In Numbers 1, after the command from the Lord to count the able-bodied men of Israel, God assigned the names of the captains of the tribes. In verse 5 the Lord says, “These then are the names of the men who shall stand with you.”  In verse 17 we see the obedience of the men “who had been designated by name.”I find it interesting that the name of the men is of such importance. The word of the Lord is more than “these men” followed by a list of names, but a clear reference to the names as being of importance. Over the next few days we will look at these names, believing that since the men were designated “by name” that there may be something in the name we can learn about God’s work “in the wilderness.”God is, after all, a God who chose to reveal Himself to Israel “by name.”  This holy name of God, YHWH, reveals more about God than we could have ever known until He told us His name.  The “I AM” both has a name and calls His people by name.As Christians, we “take the name of Jesus” with us.  Jesus is the Greek form of the Hebrew Yeshua (Joshua), which means “Salvation.”  And how did the Son of God get this name?  It was designated by God, who told Joseph, “You shall call His name Jesus” (Matthew 1:21).In His Grace,Dr. Randy WhiteOrder our FREE DVD on the Antichrist![add_to_cart=1450]
