Seven Deadly Sins

Devotional: June 20  Proverbs 6:16-19“There are six things which the Lord hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:16–19, NASB95)Benjamin Franklin once made a list of impious activities which a moral person would not do. In a spreadsheet format, he charted his daily activity and made a black mark when he committed one of the sins. Thinking that, knowing what he shouldn’t do, not doing it would become an easy thing. Eventually,  Franklin gave up on the list. The Apostle Paul had somewhat the same experience, and eventually cried out, “Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?” (Romans 7:24).The wise writer of the Proverbs tells us seven of the things the Lord hates: haughty eyes (the kind looking down on others), a lying tongue, hands shedding innocent blood, and the heart devising the plan, and the feet that run to do the deed, the lies to cover the sin and gossips to deflect the attention.Do not have a prideful spirit, like Franklin, believing that you can just escape these things because you know God hates them.    The transforming power of God is what can free you from the body of death! In His Grace;Dr. Randy WhiteTo receive my free 90-minute DVD on the antichrist, click here.
